[익산신문 영어기사] A college student donated his pocket money

A college student Sang pil Jeong donated his pocket money and money earned from private tutoring.
This is the time of the year to give and help people in need. Iksan has a hero who donated 1,000,000 won for a scholarship. He is a student himself.
Sang pil Jeong(26) is currently majoring Division of Advanced Materials Engineering at Jeonbuk University.
Jeong was able to raise 1,000,000 won working as a tutor and saving up his pocket money. He donated it to Iksan Love Academic Scholarship Foundation.
Jeong said, “I was saving money to pay for the school but I got a full scholarship because of the good grades. So I would like to give money to students who have financial difficulties.”
“I saw college students who have to spend more time working than studying because going to school is expensive. I felt bad about it so I always wanted to help them out so they can focus on their study.”
Jeong found out about Iksan Love Academic Scholarship Foundation through his dad Onsoo Jeong(58) who is working as a chairperson in Samsung Dong Association.
Jeong’s dad said, “My son is really thrifty and kindhearted. I was very proud of him to donate money for students. I learned a lot from him through this experience.”
He took a part in the program, which was held by Korean postal service and provided mentoring to disabled students and won the local mentor award last year.
“I hope the foundation could raise more money so they can help people who need money. I am going to keep donating money even after I get a job. I have only one semester left until my graduation.”
The Scholarship will be given on the 23rd at Iksan Mayor’s office.
