Race for June 4th Nationwide Local Election Has Already Begun

June 4th Nationwide Local Elections are just around the corner and several people including incumbent Iksan Mayor announced their candidacy.
More and more people are announcing their run in a book launching ceremony turning up the heat in the race. However, there is a widespread criticism on those book launching ceremony because it can be thought of as illegal Pre-election campaigning and in some degree things are getting personal.
Seung Chol Bae who is the vice chair in Jeonbuk Provincial Council officially threw his hat in the ring on the 9th and announced his candidacy for Mayorship.
“I could not help but notice that many people in Iksan are in pain. I’ve been thinking a lot about how to improve the lives of Iksan citizens. Everybody deserves to have their voices heard. That’s why I’m proud to announce my candidacy to be the mayor of the Iksan city,” said Bae.
“I can give him a C at best,” he said when he evaluated the current mayor’s performance. “Even though the current mayor is served Iksan five consecutive terms, I don’t think it is a good idea to focus only on huge construction projects and land development. Iksan city is deep in debt because of Iksan City’s reckless BTL and BTO business expansion and there are so many things that didn’t get done,” Bae points out.
More people are expected to announce their candidacy. HunYul Chung former vice chair of Jeonbuk Administration is going to hold a press conference after he hand in a resignation to the Anti-curruption and Civil Rights Commission. “We are not going to play a blame game. Instead of focusing on attacking opponent candidates, we are going to focus on good things and place for discussing positive change,” Chung said.
The incumbent Mayor Han Soo Lee also expressed his run at his book launching ceremony on the 11th at Sungsan Hall at Wonkwang University. There were many influential figures at his book launching party and the mayor did not comment on his candidacy in detail but try to reach out to people as much as possible.
Byung Ok Bae is also planning to have a book launching ceremony in order to publicize his candidacy and organize his campaign. “I am going to try to restore trust that’s been broken for so long. I would like to encourage people to vote so we can show how powerful we are,” he said.
Some are already accusing candidates of illegal pre-election campaigning and personal attack and name calling are already prevalent online.
The National Election Commission swore that they will do their best to encourage a fair campaigning and to have a fair election.
