The Healthiest School Dining Halls in Jeonbuk Province
Invests 9 billion won on organically grown produce
Consists 85% of local produce

Tasteless side dishes, rough rice, and watery soup tend to pop into mind when you think of school lunches. However, Iksan city is moving towards healthier and more delicious menus for our students!
Iksan city which operates School Dining Support Center for the first time in Jeonbuk area announced that it would invest 9 billion won to provide 43,000 students with locally and organically grown produce.
100 nutritionists from several school, officials, management, and members of the produce committee convened at Youngdeng library on the 13th.
At the briefing session, the city announced that it will raise an awareness for school dining halls and promote healthy eating among students.
Unlike last year, it will subsidize 60% of the expenditure for highs schools this year. The city will purchase most of its food from local sources so that it can stimulate local economy. It is hoping to build a support system in order to provide locally and organically grown food to schools.
In order to be certified as organic produce, it has to be checked for any residual pesticide. The city is going to work together with local farms to make food safer for children.
The city officials said that they are hoping to achieve two goals: one is stimulating the local economy by purchasing locally grown food and the other is to provide safer and healthier food for our kids, which makes sense!
