I¡¯m waiting to hear some good news and hope to find survivors.¡± SeungIl Yang urged the government to work out strict security measures so we do not have to repeat this tragedy. HunYul Jeon said, ¡°As a father of my children, it is very heartbreaking.¡±
He announced that he will stop campaign for the election for a while and DaeJung Hur wrote, ¡°I hope this kind of thing would never happen again, and I will pray for those who are working around the clock to find survivors.¡±
As the government¡¯s clumsy handling of the disaster is further deepening the despair and anger of the families of the victims, many mayoral candidates, YoungAe Im, JongTae Kang, YoungSeo Ki, and ChangPil Lee, are postponing their opening ceremony of their campaign office.
YoungAe Im and ChangPil Lee announced that they are delaying the ceremony during a time of mourning.
Many cultural events are either canceled or delayed because of the ferry disaster.
A Friday performance at the Iksan art center is canceled and Iksan city is considering postponing of its major event Seodong Festival that is scheduled in May.
Political circles have remained low-key due to the national tragedy.
The New Political Vision Party Jeonbuk office notified the press that they are halting all campaign activities for the election on June 4th.
