The city installed the altar on the first floor of the city hall and prepared yellow ribbons saying condolences and some flowers to offer to the spirit of the deceased.
The mourning wall for the ferry victims was installed as well.
The city decided to run the altar from 8 a.m to 9 p.m everyday until the official memorial is over in Ansan, Kyunggi province where many of the students are from.
10 staff members will be at the mourning altar to greet the visitors.
"We are grieving the loss of so many high school students with the rest of the nation," said one of the staff members.
"We hope to express our deepest condolences for the families of the victims and hope to find the missing soon."
The education Board in Iksan is also running the memorial for the students and teachers who were sacrificed in the accident.
The memorial is on the first floor of the building and it will run until the funeral service is over.
The edu board memorial will be open from 8 30 a.m to 9 p.m and some staff members will be there to help the visitors.
The memorial wall was also installed for the students and teachers and it posted a banner on its website to offer their condolences.
