They are firefighting officers.

Whenever something comes up, they are the first ones to be there.

This is why Iksan fire department was on high alert on the election day on June 4th.

The department had prepared for the election by educating the staff who worked at the voting areas and thoroughly conducted safety check so that people could cast their precious vote without any disturbance.

SangIl Lee and HeeChoel Lee said that it is a relief that everything went smoothly and nothing happened. The firefighters were on standby on the election day.

"We cannot rest because nobody knows what is going to happen at when and where," one firefighter said. "Especially at places where people gather, you just have to be cautious," he added.

The department arranged their forces so that they could get to places more quickly.

Before the election day, the fire department went through all the voting areas and worked until the election results were in.

The firefighters wanted to be ready in case they needed because they know so well that small things could lead to a disaster as we seen in the ferry disaster in April this year.

The firefighters did their best to keep people safe that day.

"We can't really rest since we might be needed any time of the day," said one firefighter.

In addition, the fire department started 119 transfer volunteering service to help people who cannot move freely get to the voting area.

"We thought it should be convenient for everyone to vote so we started the service with a group of volunteers," said  the firefighter.

The department is determined to make Iksan a safe city and it will do its best to serive Iksan citizens.
