JaeMan Jang is a 41-year-old YeoSan resident.
Even though the things that he does for his neighbors are special, he doesn't seem that different from others.
He has been a member of YeoSan Neighborhood watch for 20 years.
The area organized the neighborhood watch in order to prevent crimes in the area.
They are working closely with the police. Jang became the chief four years ago.
YeoSan is famous for onions and many people in the area work late at night because onions are big so it is better to load the trucks at night.
"We patrol the area at night because people are working late," said Jang.
Wherever he is needed, he is there. Four years ago, there was an elderly man isolated in the flood in YeoSan and they rescued the elderly man safely and helped restore the town damaged from the flood.
"We were awarded a certificate from the police because the police appreciated what we do for our community even though there are many organizations that do the similar things," said the chief humbly.
He felt awkward to talk about what they did because it is their job to do it anyway.
"We all feel that we're doing what we need to do and it feels great to be recognized but we don't really think about that kind of stuff," he added.
Aside from his amazing work as a chief for the neighborhood watch, he is also a volunteer firefighter. He won the wildfire drill competition last year.
We asked why he is volunteering and working so hard for his neighbors.
"It feels natural to me that I get involved in this kind of work," Jang said.
Even though their members are older than most members in other organizations, they are hard working and get along with each other really well.
They promised that they would do their best to safe guard the area.
