There is an English newspaper in Iksan that the middle and high school students in the area make.

It¡¯s called the Scoop! Students can write about anything that they want to write because the students are in charge of the newspaper.

The student reporters are chosen based on their applications and personal statements in English.

There are currently 20 students in the Scoop.

The reporters meet up twice a month on Saturdays to discuss the next issue and write articles that they want to write.

They can work in pairs or individually as long as they come up with an article by the deadline.

Iksan press met up with MinHa Kim and HongRae Lee from the Buchon Middle school to find out more. They said that they had wanted to participate in the newspaper when they heard about it last year.

When they heard that the Scoop was looking for the reporters, they applied immediately.

¡°It made me think about small things that I never noticed before,¡± said Kim. ¡°I think paying attention to our lives become a second nature. We write about things that we see and hear everyday,¡± said Lee.

The Scoop online café seemed like a good place to look since there are many postings about how to improve the newspaper.

The articles vary from gossips to school event all written by local middle and high school students.

¡°We can write about things that we face everyday so kids can share our thoughts and emotions easily. It will be a precious memory when we grow up,¡± said Kim.

The Scoop provides an opportunity to think about other things than studying.

Rather than studying English for studying, students can be a lot more interested in the language.

According to Kim and Lee, the hardest thing being student reporters is finding things to write about.

¡°I thought really hard to come up with a topic that would get other kids to be interested. It felt like some things are too heavy and other things are boring so I wrote about outdoor activities.

I found out that it actually helps students focus,¡± said Kim. ¡°I had to read regular newspapers to come up with a topic, too,¡± she added.

Lee said that she doesn¡¯t like studying grammar at school.

She felt like she could write about something fun so she wrote about couple spin and got a good review on the article. ¡°I actually had fun writing about it,¡± said Lee.

These brilliant student reporters didn¡¯t just study English.

They actually ¡°played¡± with it. Kim and Lee participated in English camps and read many books in English.

Both of them got good results in the English Olympiad.

Both students that the secret to studying English is to be confident and never be afraid to make mistakes because since you can say hi, you will be able to say a lot more and English is going to be a lot more fun.

Kim and Lee are also planning to make a school English club! Go, girls!
