It used to be a lively market full of hustle and bustle of people from Iksan, Kimjae, and Baekgu but the old glory is hard to be seen nowadays.
However, DooSool Kim and the members of the merchant association are busy trying to revive the old glory of the Nambu Traditional market.
Kim became the head of the association in 2008. He is also the head of the Iksan Traditional market association.
Were planning to have an event to revive the livelihood of the traditional market and were educating the vendors through our programs, said Kim.
The market invites people with disabilities on the first full moon day event and has them participate in the traditional games like kicking Jaegi and Jumping on the board.
The market also makes Kimchi for people in need during the winter.
Kim and his members got Oriental Medicine students to volunteer at the market every Saturday and there is a Korean class on Monday, a singing class on Thursday in order to create good environment for the vendors.
I believe that we should do whatever we can to make them comfortable and fun to work here. I think we can offer that through a various programs that we run here, he added.
He provided 600 senior citizens with Jajang noodles in May. I think it is important to help people in need, Kim said.
On the 16th, the market was chosen for the business team consulting in the Honam region and they celebrated by giving out 40 free gifts such as kitchenware.
I think we should think of ways to attract peoples attention since we have to compete with the big mart and were trying to think of ways to improve the lives of the vendors so they are happy. Well do our best to offer the peasant shopping experience, he explained.
